We begin our route at 227 meters above sea level (745 ft) in the town of Pucón, Chile, heading toward one of South America's most active volcanoes: the Villarrica Volcano. Known in Mapudungun as Rukapillán ("House of the Spirits"), this stratovolcano regularly delights us with its incandescence and a lava lake exceeding 1,200°C (2,192°F), which can sometimes be seen from the summit.
We depart by car from Pucón to an elevation of 1,400 meters (4,593 ft), where our trekking adventure begins. We will ascend for approximately 5 hours toward the summit and spend about 3 hours descending. Along the route, you will admire surrounding volcanoes, visible traces of past eruptions, stunning views over Lake Villarrica, and much more. The goal is to enjoy every step of the climb as we reach the summit standing at 2,847 meters above sea level (9,340 ft).
