Description
Contrary to what you might think, people of all ages can take this tour, as it is quiet and light; consider also that it starts at the Plan de Valparaíso. The perfect starting point for this tour would be the Plaza de La Victoria, with its trees brought from Brazil, in front of the Santiago Severin library, the naval club and the Valparaiso Cathedral, where once stood the Edwards palace, destroyed in an earthquake in 1906. From there, we will take a local trolley, a true walking monument, to Anibal Pinto Square, one of the hearts of the city, where we will walk together to take the Reina Victoria elevator, one of the oldest and best restored.
Our stop there is one of the first views we will have of the city, just steps away from the Dimalow Passage, where we will see the silhouette of a Lutheran church on a hill of the Concepción Hill.
As we walk we will pass by typical places such as the restaurant "El desayuno", the Anglican church, symbol of the British community of the XIX century, and many more.
From this point we can clearly see the topography of the hills of Valparaiso, as well as the narrow passages that weave between the hills. The next important stop is the Paseo Atkinson, where you will be amazed with the colors of the houses, restaurants, schools and everything you see around. From here we can see graffiti dedicated to Pablo Neruda, for example. We return to Papudo street, to reach another emblematic passage, the Gervasoni. An icon of the city. From that point, we take the oldest elevator in the city, from 1883, which takes us to the busiest area of the city, Prat Street, and follow all the way to the main square of Valparaiso: Sotomayor Square. The first thing we can see once there, is the naval building of Valparaiso, the Victoria Hotel, the Faculty of Arts and Culture, and the Germania pump, headquarters of the firefighters of Valparaiso and the entrance to the port. But perhaps the most important is the monument to the heroes of the naval combat of Iquique. Our last stop will be the Paseo Yugoslavo. Place to which we will arrive walking from the Sotomayor square, after taking the Peral elevator.
